Getting caught up in the numbers

I did a interview with aguycalledbloke a couple months back. One of the questions he asked was, is WordPress the only place my writing is displayed. I said no because at the time the only other place was blogger. I started off on blogger but wasn’t getting any views. still to this day all the views on there came from my cousin and I. I was following a blog called Bottlesandheels when I noticed on the bottom of her blog post it said powered by WordPress. Long story short I moved all my post over to this platform. I thought about promoting my blog a couple times before but never put a effort until now.

OMG! The first promotional website I made was twitter. There are so many retweet, Like, and follow post made every second its unreal. There is so much research that comes with expanding and branching out. After Twitter came Instagram, Facebook, and then Pinterest which i still don’t completely understand. The picture that you see to the left is of my folder on my phone. Yes everything is in folders and labeled lol you should see my whole phone. The

apps are in order in which I check them and post. As you can see my engagement on twitter has caused me to move it in front of WordPress. So far Twitter is also where I have gained the most follower the last couple of weeks. I got caught up in the numbers/ followers to the point that I wasn’t writing anything. I started taking courses to better understand the different ways to increase traffic. A course that I am currently taking stated, “If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it”. OK I get that to a certain point, but we can’t just let it consume us to the point we aren’t writing anymore just promoting.
So here I am with pen to paper trying to pump the brakes a little. I have been listening to EllDuclos’s Boss Girl Blogger podcast so I am too motivated to sleep. Her energy alone makes you want to get back to work. I think that I might start listening to more podcast so if you have any that you would like to suggest, leave me a comment below please and I will gladly check them out. I think that listening to podcast allows us time away from the numbers a bit as well.

I do have a goal to try to get 300 follower on each network, however I will be honest that I am full aware that this is not going to happen over night. So I am writing this to remind me to take a break from the numbers, to remind you to take a break, and to not stress to much over the views and likes. After all without the writing there will be nothing to promote. In due time they will come.

  1. I also had to take a breather and remember that I love to write and raise awarness. It is hard not to think about the numbers because you want readers and feedback

    1. Yess I agree!!! I was trying to hard to pull people in. I think it really hit me when I read a post about people buying Instagram followers. I was just like wow you need a break. Write something, anything so I did. I love to write and was straying away from it.

  2. This post was very interesting to read. I love to write and I love being a blogger. Even though followers count, it’s best to not get too invested in it or it’ll drive you crazy. For real. 😊
